Eligibility

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for Kîwîtin Acâhkos-Yidah (Northstar) supports, applicants must meet the following criteria:

1. A member of a First Nation
2. In-Care Status
   • Are currently in care and approaching the age of majority, or
   • Were in care on the day they reached the age of majority.
3. Residency
   • Were ordinarily resident on the reserve at the time of being taken into care, or
   • Are now ordinarily resident on the reserve.
4. Age
   • Are under 26 years of age, or
   • Are under the age of eligibility for post-majority services set by applicable provincial legislation, whichever is greater.

The eligibility criteria are the same for fee-for-service.

We ask young adults interested in participating in our program to contact their DFNA to obtain a confirmation letter verifying that they meet the eligibility criteria, particularly that they were ordinarily resident on the reserve at the time of being taken into care.
