Are you passionate about supporting the journey to independence for Indigenous youth and young adults? Treaty 8 Urban Child & Family Services (CFS) is thrilled to announce employment opportunities for Practice Specialists in the new Post Majority Support Services (PMSS) program. This innovative initiative will provide personalized guidance to Treaty 8 First Nations young individuals aged 18–26 who are ordinarily resident on reserve. We are seeking Practice Specialists to join us in empowering and advocating for the growth and self-sufficiency of these remarkable young people.

    Positions Available:

    1. Practice Specialist, Post Majority Support Services (Edmonton)
    2. Practice Specialist, Post Majority Support Services (Slave Lake)

Role Overview: Reporting to the Supervisor of PMSS, the Practice Specialists will play a crucial role in assessing, evaluating, and supporting the unique needs of Indigenous youth and young adults within the PMSS program. The Specialists will work closely with internal and external resources, collaborating with program and service providers, Elders, and community members to create individualized plans that promote health, well-being, and cultural connections.

    Responsibilities:

    • Facilitate case management processes, conducting initial and comprehensive assessments, and developing individual plans.
    • Collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders to meet the needs of youth and young adults.
    • Promote Indigenous worldviews and connections to community, culture, and teachings.
    • Maintain accurate records, case notes, and documentation in compliance with legislation.

    • Working knowledge of Child Intervention Practice Framework and First Nation Practice Standards.
    • Familiarity with Indigenous communities, culture, and language is an asset.
    • Valid class 5 driver’s license, reliable transportation with $2 million liability insurance.
    • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, including vulnerable sector and Child Intervention (Welfare) Record Check (within 3 months of hiring).
    • Ability and willingness to travel to Treaty 8 First Nation communities.

Read the full job description here.

Application Details: To apply for either of these positions, please specify your preferred location (Edmonton or Slave Lake) in the subject line of your email. Submit your cover letter, resume, and qualifications to hr@treaty8ucfs.ca. Call (780) 784-3663 for more information.

Closing Date: Applications accepted until suitable candidates are found.

The mandate of the employer is to deliver child and family services from a culturally appropriate Indigenous perspective that includes knowledge of the language, customs, traditions, land base, protocols, beliefs, and values of Treaty 8 people.  For these reasons, as well as the historical disadvantages experienced by the Indigenous workforce, Treaty 8 Urban Child and Family Services may engage in preferential hiring of qualified candidates who are persons of Indigenous ancestry, particularly those with a connection to the Treaty 8 territory.

About Us: Treaty 8 Urban Child & Family Services is committed to empowering Indigenous youth and families through culturally sensitive programs and services. Join us in our mission to bring our children home.
