Many people in our communities have suffered psychological trauma in their lifetime. Indian Residential Schools are an example of the kind of trauma that our people have suffered that, in some cases, has not yet been resolved by the victims. Trauma, if left unresolved, can have a huge negative impact on the person’s life and can cause ripple effects that can negatively impact both their personal and professional lives, as well as the lives of their loved ones.
Our workshop aims to identify the types of situations that can cause trauma in a person’s life, by sharing culturally appropriate case stories; this will help participants to recognize potential sources of trauma in themselves and their loved ones. We will also discuss coping strategies and identify supports and resources that can make a real difference in overcoming sources of trauma, and bring healing to Treaty 8 families and communities.
