Child First Initiative

What is the Child First Initiative?

Our organization firmly believes in putting children first and that in order for children to have the best possible futures they can, we must provide families with the tools they need in order to succeed. To do this, we have developed a Child First Initiative Curriculum that focuses on Prevention and Early Intervention.

Through our curriculum, we are delivering workshops in communities all across Treaty 8 and the Edmonton area so that we can help give, families, youth and children, the knowledge and skills they need to bring healing to Treaty 8 families.

How Can We Help?

We offer no cost (to attendees) workshops all across Treaty 8 and the Edmonton area for Alberta Treaty 8 members.

Guiding Principles

The Child First Initiative is based on the following guiding principles:

  • The program is family focused, which ultimately benefits the child.
  • Treaty 8 families will be served by Treaty 8 people, who know their languages, customs, traditions, land base, protocols, beliefs, and values, all of which will be reflected in the Child First Initiative programs and services.
  • The focus is on pure Prevention – this is no Child Intervention involvement.
  • The core training material is consistently delivered in the same manner to all participants; only the cultural component is customized to the land base.
The curriculum is strengths-based, focusing on the positive aspects of the family.
  • The workshops give participants a voice and allow them to share and learn from their experience.
